Healthy food is a total blur to some people, hence why so many people try to lose weight but fail. It’s common for somebody wanting to lose weight to eat all of the wrong foods (that they believe are right), only to realise they aren’t getting anywhere and they relapse into eating even worse food like sweets and takeaways. To help you out, here are 3 foods that you might have thought were helping you lose weight, but they actually weren’t!

Health Drinks

You can buy tons of health drinks today, whether you’re in a huge supermarket or at your local corner shop; they’re everywhere. These drinks boast of how they contains lots of vitamins, probiotics, and even fibre – one even claims to be more hydrating than water! However, these drinks usually have a whole host of ingredients that you wouldn’t be able to pronounce, let alone spell, so they’re best avoided.

The majority of these drinks either contain simple sugars, or artificial sweeteners – neither are good for your figure! When it comes to drinks, water, green tea, herbal teas, and the occasional coffee are ok. In fact, a coffee before a workout can give you a great energy boost (just skip the milk and sugar). No matter how good these health drinks claim to be, or how many calories they say they haven’t got; don’t fall for it! They’re loaded with crap and bad for your health.

Trail Mix

You probably think you’re being awfully health conscious when you grab that bag of trail mix for a quick snack. After all, nuts are good right? Right, nuts are good. But not in a packet loaded chocolate pieces, deep fried banana, or yogurt covered raisins. In fact, trail mixes often have lots of added rubbish, such as simple sugars and refined carbohydrates. For a mere two handfuls you could be looking at 600 calories! Step away from the trail mix and buy a plain bag of almonds, hazelnuts, or brazil nuts instead.

Fat Free Foods

Fat free foods might be free from fat, but fat doesn’t actually make us fat providing it’s coming from the right foods (almonds, coconut oil, avocados, salmon). Fat free/zero calorie drinks, fat free yogurts, and fat free cookies and cakes are all deceiving us. People automatically see “fat free” and think “healthy”, when that couldn’t be further from the truth. Because of the 0% fat, you’ll probably eat more than usual, and fat free foods are nearly always loaded with sugars. You’re still eating a high number of calories, regardless of whether something is fat free!

Now you might have a better idea of what to buy and what not to buy in the supermarket. If ever in doubt, stick to whole, raw, natural, and organic foods. Lean meats, eggs, plain nuts, veg, and fruit are all great (fruit in moderation, as natural sugar is still bad when you eat too much of it).
